The Australian Industrial Relations Commission has today published 29 exposure drafts for modern awards and a further exposure draft for the national training wage.
The publication of these exposure drafts is part of Stage 4 of the award modernisation process. In 2008, the Australian Industrial Relations Commission was requested by the Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations to undertake the award modernisation task. The Commission is required to complete the task by the end of this year. The modern awards are intended to come into effect on 1 January next year, although it is likely that wages conditions in some modern awards will commence on 1 July next year.
The exposure drafts published today cover approximately 32 industries and industry sectors such as accountancy, animal care and veterinary services, aqua culture, building services (such as car parking and pest control) correctional facilities, diving services, dry cleaning and laundry, preschool education, entertainment and broadcasting, fire fighting, grain handling, ambulance services, fitness and leisure, social and community services, supported employment services, indigenous organisations, labour hire, legal services, the modelling industry, the maritime industry, real estate industry, the restaurant and catering industry.
To view the exposure drafts, go to www.airc.gov.au/awardmod/fullbench/, then select
Stage 4 industries/occupations (Jul-Dec 09).
The publication of the exposure drafts provides an opportunity for interested parties to make submissions and comments. Proposals, submissions and any other material in relation to the exposure drafts must be lodged with the Commission by 16 October 2009. Submissions can be lodged by post, fax or email and all material will be made available through the internet. The Commission will conduct consultations in relation to the exposure drafts from 26 to 30 October 2009 in Sydney and on Wednesday 4 November 2009 in Melbourne.
In many cases the exposure drafts will be in incomplete form or based upon drafts advanced by various groups. The drafts reflect a provisional or tentative view and may be changed later on the basis of material and arguments.
