Australian Business Lawyers & Advisors (ABLA) has announced a significant change to solely focus on its core practice of workplace relations and employment law.

It will close its corporate and commercial practice from February 27, with its team’s lawyers moving to another firm.

ABLA CEO Nigel Ward said the change will mean businesses will benefit with this single focus, offering dedicated workplace relations and employment advice from a highly respected and successful team, with all resources and focus going into this specialised area of law and practice.

Mr Ward said ABLA commenced the strategy early last year when it closed its Sydney corporate and commercial office. He continues to lead the team with managing director Luis Izzo, National Practice Manager, Renee King, Head of Marketing Fiona Kenny and Newcastle based Director, Kyle Scott and Sydney Director leading employment lawyer Abraham Ash.

“Workplace relations and employment law has been ABLA’s principal area of practice for more than a decade and has continued to grow significantly over that time,” Mr Ward said.

“We can better serve our clients with our energy and resources focused on this important and ever-changing area,” he said.

He said the Federal Government’s proposed industrial relations (IR) changes and new legislation is the biggest IR reform in more than a decade and will impact all workplaces.

“We continue to be involved in significant test cases and workplace policy discussions with clients and at a national and political level.”

Mr Ward said ABLA’s team remains committed to serving employers across Australia from its offices in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Newcastle. The new Melbourne office officially opened late last year and earlier this month the Sydney team moved from North Sydney to Chifley Plaza, in the Sydney CBD.

“While our focus area has sharpened, our motto of being ‘experts make things simple’ remains as does our approach of mutual respect and collaboration with clients.”

ABLA’s workplace and employment law team has reputation for success having won numerous awards since 2016. These accolades include being a four-time winner at the Australian Law Awards, winner at the Australasian Law Awards and being named a Legal 500 Leading Law Firm for the specialised area of employment and workplace law.

ABLA’s services continue to include: employment law; industrial relations; work, health and safety; investigations and HR consulting.
