David joined ABLA in March 2020. He advises businesses concerning COVID-19, termination of employment, employee misconduct, statutory entitlements and the employer-independent contractor distinction. He conducts reviews of employment contracts and policies, and assists in the conduct of litigation, from the preparation of evidence, employer responses and legal submissions. He brings technical expertise to the analysis of legal problems.
David has a unique and diverse background as an employment lawyer. He brings to ABLA varied educational and professional experience. Graduating with first class honours in Law from the University of Sydney, where he received academic prizes, he has undertaken postgraduate coursework and completed a doctorate.
David was paralegal in an employment law and workplace relations team at a top tier law firm for many years. There he had extensive experience, undertaking legal research and drafting numerous publications. He was seconded to the NSW Road Transport Association, fielding general inquiries from members and assisting in disputes in the NSW Industrial Relations Commission.
After working as the tipstaff for Justice Macfarlan of the Court of Appeal of the NSW Supreme Court in 2010, David commenced legal practice at a top tier law firm in 2011, assisting in the drafting of executive contracts, the termination of employment relationships, and the preparation of evidence and submissions for hearing.
David has worked in a legal and non-legal capacity at high levels in the Catholic Church in Sydney, including being on the personal staff of a senior public figure. He has also lectured and tutored at the tertiary level.
