On Friday evening, with the first-ever virtual Australian Law Awards, the Australian Business Lawyers & Advisors team took out top place to win “Commercial Team of the Year 2020”. Sitting amongst top-tier global law firms, this was serious competition in a year of such turmoil, an amazing achievement.
Iain Rennie, Managing Director of the Corporate and Commercial team said ‘winning is a great validation to the commitment and discipline of our team. It is a mark of professional achievement of which we are very proud. Professionalism is something we hold dearly at ABLA. I am really pleased that throughout this year the team remained focused and engaged in meeting client needs and also in keeping all business owners generally up-to-date and well informed of the rapidly changing legal and regulatory environment.’
The Australian Law Awards celebrates excellence in the legal industry and with over 1,000 entries it is truly a significant moment to take out a winning spot.
The Corporate and Commercial team at ABLA started in 2011, which Julian Courtney-Stubbs, Director, reflects on. “I started the group with a blank piece of paper and set about to create an environment of peer support, unselfish behaviour and quality lawyering. A decade later we have truly built something with tremendous clients whom we share a special bond with as trusted advisor.”
The Corporate and Commercial team boast significant breadth of experience with the group’s leaders, and combined with a diverse range of practitioners are positioned to offer clients an exceptional value proposition.
Nigel Ward, CEO and Director says he often felt the Commercial team was one of ABLA’s best kept secrets, but not anymore. “Taking this award, against some outstanding firms in the field is a remarkable achievement and testament to the core purpose of this team. Collaboration, tenacity and the greater purpose of wanting to genuinely help businesses thrive is what gave ABLA the win this year. We decided early on that the pandemic called for us to be even more generous with knowledge to help business owners survive as best they can and we remain focussed on this and helping them rebuild when it passes; which it will do at some point.”
