EXPERIENCE

Dean has been with ABLA since 2012 where he started in the Workplace Advice Line assisting small and large businesses by giving practical advice on wide a range of workplace matters including modern awards, NES entitlements, performance management, redundancy and many more. It was there he honed his knowledge of the Australian workplace relations system and problem solving skills giving practical, easy to understand advice instantly.

With this invaluable experience under his belt, he commenced practising law with ABLA in 2014 where he was able to combine his understanding of the challenges faced by business of all sizes to give pragmatic legal advice on:
  • The National Employment Standards;
  • Termination of employment and redundancy;
  • Unfair dismissal;
  • Performance management;
  • Enterprise agreements;
  • Modern award compliance and interpretation;
  • Managing ill and injured workers; and
  • Bullying, harassment and discrimination.
Dean has also worked in-house on extended secondments with large businesses which has given him an in-depth understanding of the practical difficulties businesses face day to day when dealing with industrial and HR issues, including navigating complex legal regulations, negotiating enterprise agreements and investigating workplace complaints.

He is also actively involved in the administration of Australian Business Industrial (ABI) which takes an active role in advocating on behalf of its members in industrial relations matters both in the Fair Work Commission and directly to government on matters of workplace policy.

Dean can often be found on his feet delivering training courses and seminars on a wide range of topics to HR professionals, managers and business owners of both small and international companies with an emphasis on practical advice with an approachable style.
